摘要 | PURPOSE:To decrease the damages of an optical waveguide by irradiation with a laser beam by subjecting the surface of an LiNbO3 substrate to a proton exchange to substitute the Li with deutron D, thereby forming the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:Since the optical waveguide 12 contains the deutron D, the refractive index thereof is higher than the refractive index of the optical crystal substrate 1 The element is functioned as an SHG in this way. Then, an optical second harmonic wave 15 (blue laser beam of about 0.45mum wavelength) is generated by Cherenkov radiation in the optical waveguide 12 if the laser beam 13 (external stimulating light, about 0.9mum wavelength) is made incident from one end face of the optical waveguide 12. This optical second harmonic wave 15 is radiated into the optical crystal substrate 1 The fundamental wave 14 of the same wavelength as the wavelength of the laser beam 13 is outputted from the other end face of the optical waveguide 12 and the optical second harmonic wave 15 as short wavelength light is outputted from the end face of the optical crystal substrate 1 |
