摘要PURPOSE:To reduce the spacing between a semiconductor laser and an optical fiber and improve coupling efficiency by a method wherein a semi-spherical thin type Faraday rotor and a polarization separating plate are provided between the semiconductor laser and the optical fiber and magnets are provided around them and those parts are enclosed and held solidly by a holder. CONSTITUTION:When a light is transmitted from a semiconductor laser LD to an optical fiber F, the horizontal polarized light component l1 is rotated by 45 deg. by a Faraday rotor TFR as shown by a symbol l2. As this direction is perpendicular to the optical axis of a polarization separating plate PS, the light l2 enters the polarization separating plate PS as an ordinary light and senses a refractive index no and enters the optical fiber F after being transmitted. In the case of a feedback light, its ordinary light component lo and extraordinary light component le sense refractive indices no and ne respectively to create complex refraction and the extraordinary light component le is polarized and only the ordinary light component lo is rotated by 45 deg. by the Faraday rotor TFR as shown by a symbol lo1 and returned to the semiconductor laser LD. As the direction of this light is perpendicular to the semiconductor laser LD, the deterioration of the wavelength can be neglected.
