摘要PURPOSE:To express an excellent gradation without deteriorating the resolution of a picture image by generating pulses in response to a picture data by a fist modulation means, driving a semiconductor laser and modulating the amplitude of pulses in response to the picture data by a second modulation means. CONSTITUTION:Modulating beams emitted from a laser diode 22 are changed into parallel beams by a collimator lens 26, and deflected repeatedly by a deflecting system 28 turned and driven by a motor 27. Modulating beams from the deflecting system 28 are scanned on a photosensitive drum 30 through a condenser lens 29, and the photosensitive drum 30 is rotated and driven by the motor and charged uniformly by a charger, and exposed by modulating beams, thus forming an electrostatic latent image. The electrostatic latent image is developed by a developing machine, and transferred onto transfer paper by a transfer device. Beams from the condenser lens 29 are reflected by a mirror 31 on the outside of a picture region and detected by a photo-detector 32, and the modulation of the laser diode 22 is started synchronized with the output signal of the photo-detector 32.
