摘要PURPOSE:To make it possible to easily perform the coupling of the title element with an optical fiber and to contrive to improve a coupling efficiency in such a way as to be able to lead sufficiently photo output in the optical fiber by a method wherein the element is provided with a groove, which leads the optical fiber at the time of coupling of the optical fiber and makes its core layer position on the same optical axis as that of a luminous region. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 3a and 3b are formed on parts only of a high-luminance end face light emission type LED 1 and a V-shaped mesa groove 8 is valid on the other part. Here, as the outer diameter of an optical fiber strand 2 is phi=125mum, the distance between the deepest part of the groove 8 and an active layer 4 exposed on the upper part of the groove 8 and the angular aperture of the groove 8 are respectively assumed to be (x) and (theta) and the groove 8 is formed so that a formula of 125=2Xsintheta is valid. The optical fiber strand 2 is led by the sidewall by just fitting in from the upper direction and an alignment of a luminous region 7 in the center of the active layer 4 and a core layer 6 of the strand 2 is automatically performed. After this, by fixing with a resin 9, the coupling of an element with the optical fiber strand is completed.
