Space-based hyperspectral cameras require onboard light sources for the calibration and degradation monitoring of their detectors. Electrodeless lamps (EDLs) are an interesting solution because they have features of the extremely long life. The high brightness and wide spectral range, which spans from ultraviolet to infrared wavelengths, making light sources with narrow and intense spectral lines are a popular choice for scientific instruments. In this paper, an inductively-coupled krypton lamp was demonstrated as a calibration source, which offers a longer service life compared to traditional calibration sources and demonstrated that these EDLs are suitable for space applications. During testing, the device demonstrated good performance, with the inductor coil's current peaking at about 8A and the lamp's start-up time being 200 microseconds. © 2023 IEEE.
