摘要PURPOSE:To implement compact configuration, high efficiency and a long life, by constituting the active part of a semiconductor crystal by a single quantum well structure and a single epitaxial crystal, whose band width changes on both sides and which has the same or similar lattice constant throughout the entire body. CONSTITUTION:On a CdS crystal substrate 1, a ZnCdSSe mixed crystal layer 2, in which lattices are approximately aligned, is formed. The composition of the layer is monotonously changed in a linear or curved shape so that the narrowest band width is obtained at an active region 3 at the central part. Similar mixed crystal layer 4 and CdS layer 5 are formed in a vertically symmetrical pattern. Pumping light 6 is directly converged by a light source or once converged into a single mode optical fiber 7, and then the light is inputted to the side surface. For effective laser oscillation, dichroic optical fiber 8, which can transmit the pumping light and is reflective against the oscillating light is attached to the input side of the pumping light; and a dichroic optical film 9 which is reflective against the pumping light and partially transmissive for the oscillating light, is attached to the output side.
