摘要	A system (10) for detecting gaseous chemicals, the system comprising: a volume configured to receive gaseous chemicals (14); an external cavity quantum cascade laser (18) arranged to transmit lasing radiation through the volume, the external cavity quantum cascade laser (5) operating in a mid‐infrared wavelength range; a detector (18A) for detecting the intensity of the laser radiation affected by the gaseous chemicals; and, an analyser (20) for processing the detected radiation to identify the one or more gaseous chemicals.
