Temporal development of spatial solitons in biased photorefractive-photovoltaic materials

摘要A theory to characterize the time-dependent formation of spatial solitons in biased photorefractive-photovoltaic materials is presented that provides the screening soliton's temporal behavior when the bulk photovoltaic effect is neglectable for short circuits and the open- and closed-circuit photovoltaic soliton's temporal behavior when the external field is absent. Such a theory predicts that the response time of the steady- state solitons can be controlled by adjusting the electric current density, J(0), and the maximum normalized amplitude of the soliton beam. The formation time of the steady- state solitons increases with vertical bar J(0)vertical bar for J(0) <= 0, has its minimum value between 0 < J(0) < 1, and decreases with increasing maximum normalized amplitude of the soliton beam. The response times of steady- state photovoltaic solitons and steady- state screening solitons have been investigated and it has been found that the formation time of the dark steady- state photovoltaic soliton is shorter for a short-circuit condition than for an open- circuit condition, shorting the material affects the response time of bright steady- state photovoltaic solitons very little, and the formation time of the short- circuit steady- state photovoltaic solitons is longer than that of the steady- state screening soliton.
